Installing on a PC

Go to the Citrix website at https://citrix.com/products/receiver.

Click on Download Receiver for Windows.

Run the Citrix Receiver file that was downloaded

Click Install and click Next/Continue until it finished

To prevent any issues accessing the Citrix Web Panel and your SureDesk we recommend setting https://so5.suretech.com as a trusted site in your web browser.

How you make a site trusted depends on what internet browser you are using.

Internet Explorer

Go to Tools menu

Select Internet Options

Make sure suretech.com is shows and select Add

Mozilla Firefox

Go to so4.suretech.com

Select the Firefox Menu

Select Add Ons

Select Plug Ins

Select Always Activate Dropdown next to: Citrix ICA and Citrix Offline PlugIns

Google Chrome

Go to https://so5.suretech.com

Click on the wrench for the main menu

Click on Options

For some users Microsoft Outlook 2013 can be an adjustment from the older versions of Office. Luckily there are various customization options that can make Outlook 2013 more comfortable to use.

Changing the theme

If you find Outlook is too bright, white or hard to look out you can change the theme with the following steps.

Go to File -> Office Account

There are two theme options to choose from:

Office Background changes the texture of ribbon at the top of the screen.
Office Theme changes the color theme of Outlook. There are only three choices White, Light Gray, and Dark Gray.

Navigation Strip

You can free up space by condensing the navigation bar.

The default navigation bar:

In the View tab click Folder Pane.

    Click Options
    Select Compact Navigation.

A network interruption at your location, at our datacenter, or even somewhere in-between will cause the connection to your SureDesk to 'hiccup' or 'stall'. If the interruption is longer than a few instants, you may find your SureDesk becomes unresponsive and you may see the above message.

What you should do:

Relax for a minute except for local network issues, internet or datacenter interruptions are rare (a dozen times a year perhaps) and most often resolve themselves quickly (within seconds usually or 5-10 minutes at the most).

Do nothing during the interruption the more you click during the interruption the more the SureDesk needs to do before it becomes functional again. Try to reduce the queue of commands when there seems to be an interruption.

Avoid unnecessary slow usage and Outlook crashes by making sure you are using Outllook as optimally as possible.

It's the item count not the size that matters. Having a large number of items in a folder will mean that Outlook will open slower and any operations in that folder will take longer (so long that it may seem like Outlook has crashed since it seems frozen).

Overall Outlook performance is largely influenced by the number of items in the heavily used folders. Inbox, Deleted Items and Sent Item folder are the primary folders where large amount of items will disrupt performance. Calendar, Contacts, and any other folder that is heavily used can also disrupt performance.

The Microsoft Exchange Team recommends no more than about 2500-5000 items in any folder. If you have more than 5,000 items in your inbox, for example, you can have unpredictable results depending on how you use Outlook.

How to improve performance

You can improve Outlook performance by creating new top level folders or sub-folders (See Fig. 1) and moving items from the heavily used folders into these new folders. Remember not only can you can create subfolders in the Inbox but you can also create subfolders in Sent Items and Deleted Items for better organization.

Disconnecting

Disconnecting leaves your SureDesk open and running so you can connect without launching the SureDesk again. You can leave programs running on your SureDesk. As long as you return to your SureDesk within the idle Log Off time window, all your programs and documents will still be running when you reconnect. If you do not expect to return within two hours your should either increase your Log Off time window by contacting support, or you should Log Off and not use disconnect.

There are several ways to disconnect:

You can go to the Citrix bar on top and click disconnect. This leaves your SureDesk open and running on our servers.
If your SureDesk is in windowed mode you can also disconnect by hitting the 'X' in the top right of your SureDesk.
In the Citrix web panel you hover over the Log Off button in the upper right hand corner. Click disconnect.

Logging Off SureDesk

Logging off completely shuts down the SureDesk similar to shutting down a regular computer. This will end the SureDesk session and end all programs that were running. If you expect to be gone for longer than two hours or are ending your work day please use this option.

To log off your SureDesk completely you will need to follow the following steps:

Click on Start Menu.

Click Log ...

The U: Drive is a private drive, only you have access to these 'My Documents' and preference folders.

Files on your Local Computer

Wouldnt it be great if the glory days lasted forever? But reality is trophies get dusty, records are broken, and what it took to be the best ten years ago, just isnt enough for todays standards. Things get better, faster. And eventually, its time to move from good enough to something much better.

Windows XP had an amazing run and millions of PC users are grateful for it. But its time to move on. Two reasons: 1) Extended support for Windows XP is running out in less than 1000 days, and 2) theres an OS out there thats much better than Windows XP.

As amazing as software power and features have become, we are sometimes amazed in the wrong way.

We recently spent more than 20 hours troubleshooting OneNote  on our SureDesk in an attempt to address crashes and notebook corruptions. We used  several different repositories for the OneNote files including, SkyDrive free,  SkyDrive business, our own SharePoint, and saving files locally; and this is what  I have concluded;

OneNote is buggy and prone to corrupting notebooks that have images in them.

SkyDrive has terrible outbound throughout and is both miserably slow when loading OneNote and also causes OneNote.exe to crash. The only way I found to use SkyDrive reliably was to use OneNote online on SkyDrive.

In the end (hit the cymbals) we gave up and moved our notes to Evernote for anywhere access capability and no crashes.

Computers are not quite like TVs - when you turn them on, you actually interact with your computer in many ways. This takes some training, both for the computer and for you.

For our part the SureDesk is a balancing act to find the optimal balance between four separate goals: performance, cost efficiency, flexibility and security. Our commitment is to provide solutions that to the greatest extent possible provide the best of each of these goals.

Most of you will have had years of training with your physical PCs, Macs and Laptops. We've worked very hard to make the SureDesk as similar as possible, but it's just a little bit different in some ways and a little bit the same in others.

The better you can understand the SureDesk, the better the experience is likely to work for you.

Overall Dynamic is the best practice standard. With the Hardware and Software Technology currently in place the downside of the Dynamic IP Addressing Scheme has been countered. In a best practice network Static is used for Important Servers, Routers and specific peripherals that require high demand consistent access. Other peripherals should be given a reservation in the Dynamic Addressing Server or DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) Server which will give the ease of Dynamic Addressing with the consistency of Static Addressing when they need consistent access, e.g. Printers, Scanners, IP Cameras.

Troubleshooting Problems with Microsoft Outlook Add-Ins

Third-party add-ins (such as desktop antivirus scanners) cause a disproportionately high number of connection-related issues in Outlook.

The easiest way to test this is to start Outlook in safe mode, which disables all add-ins. To do this, shut Outlook down completely, by choosing File Exit, and then hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete to enter the Task Manger. From there, click the Processes tab, and terminate any processes called OUTLOOK.EXE. Next, go to Start Run, and type in outlook.exe /safe. (Note that there MUST be a space character between outlook.exe and /safe.)

If running in Safe Mode fixes whatever connection issue you were having, the next step is to restart Outlook normally and start disabling or removing Add-Ins. There are two areas youll need to check COM+ Addins, and Exchange Client Extensions. These are accessed differently on Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2003.

For Outlook 2010: Go to File Options Add-ins. Click the Go button thats located towards the bottom of the window.

For Outlook 2007: From within Outlook, navigate Tools Trust Center Add-ins. Towards the bottom, choose COM Add-ins and click Go.

For Outlook 2003: Within Outlook, choose Tools Options, and then click the Other tab, and then the Advanced Options button. Towards the bottom of the screen youll see a button labeled COM Add-Ins. Click that.

Youll get to a window with a number of Add-ins listed:

For getting attention, the only thing more reliable than a train reck is a historic international train wreck like the killing of Osama Bin Laden.

Looking at the bloody pictures is so natural, impuslive and reliable that criminals have a perfect opportunity to capitalize on it before the real pictures are shown.

BEWARE OF BIN LADEN IS DEAD PICS

The email below from facebook is almost impossible to ignore, but it is a TROJAN HORSE designed to download a malicious program to your computer or facebook account. My friend below clicked on a similar link which then took over her Facebook address book and sent out the email below to her friends. Also the pics it's refering to are FAKE.

TO SEE THE REAL PICS

You are connected to the internet, trust me, you will know as soon as the real pictures are released. you won't have to click on a special link, accept a download or agree to any terms. The pictures will be on the new york times, cnn and major newspapers easily and publicly. If someone sends you a special attachment in email you can safely ignore it, but you cannot safely open it.

Follow these steps to install Citrix on iPad:

Go to the app store on your iPad

Search for 'citrix receiver' with an icon like this

Install it on the ipad, then return to this page on your ipad safari browser and click HERE.

Enter your username and password

For the iPad we recommend doing this on a weekday as you may need support. Among other things I know a bug requires clicking the SureDesk twice before it works correctly. Again, prepare to experiment a bit before you can be productive on the iPad.

Overview

Not all viruses are easily removed

Sometimes a machine is infect to the point where a reinstall is necessary

A good timeline tool is if it takes more than 1.5 hrs. or 2hrs with scanning it is time to escalate activity to plan "b"

Plan "b" a wipe and reinstall or a new computer (cost factors of going any further unless specifically told are not value added to a client)

Recommended tool sets for all techs:

Malwarebytes

Combofix (only works with xp and below)

Registry mechanic

Dial a fix

Kaspersky recovery AV (Linux boot disc.) or some sort of AV that can be run prior to boot of OS

rkill

Rules of Engagement:

Know your enemy (try to find out exactly what "viruses/program" is reeking havoc)

Safe mode boots are your friend. (Most viruses were installed using a specific user account, so when in doubt boot in safe mode as an administrator, usually it will let you install your tool sets to fight the virus.

WebDrive MAC client settings

Please check the following settings in your site profile and make any updates necessary:

on the MacFUSE options tab

1) Set the MacFUSE timeout to be 300 seconds. This is the amount of Time that Finder will wait for a response from WebDrive (and thus the remote IIS server) before dismounting the drive in error

2) turn off 'Mount as Local Device'.

3) turn ON 'Allow Others'

4) under Other Options, add the word noappledouble

Ont he Internet tab

1) Set the # of Retries to 1

2) Set the Timeout to 10 seconds (this is the amount of time that WebDrive will 'hang' after it receives a 204 response from the server). If you make it too short, you may get errors so 10-15 seconds is about the shortest I would recommend

On the Cache tab

1) Folder Cache -> 600 seconds

2) File Cache -> 600 Seconds

3) 'Not Found' Cache -> 60 Seconds

4) For testing, I had both the Purge options enabled, but you can probably Disable both of them. Note that if they are enabled, mounting/unmounting could be a little slower due to the purging.

I. Ensure that you are securly connected to SureFiles

Before you begin insure your Secure Connection to SureFiles is connected. To determine your connection is established you will see the following "lock icon" in your taskbar:

Mapping you SureFiles Drive

1. Open "My Computer" from your "Start Menu->My Computer" or by using your "Windows + E" key shortcut.

3. SureTech.com has set up two different drives you will map to. First is a Corporate Drive and second is your own Personal Drive. The Corporate drive contains folders for different departments in your organization such as Finance, HR, Technology etc... Your Personal drive is empty by default but allows you to create folders and files as you wish. For simplicity and consistancay we recommend that you use the drive letters "S" and "P" for these drives. S stands for "Shared" and and P stands fir "Personal", however you may use any available letter if these drive letters are already mapped to a different location.
